vom Tag

One of the guards in the German style of fighting. In vom Tag, the sword is positioned upright at the right shoulder, or sometimes held high overhead with arms straight, in preparation for a strike from above. The left foot is usually forward.

The literal translation to English is "from the day", potentially referring to "from above" as in "from where the Sun rises". Another translation that has appeared in English texts about the technique is "from the roof".
