An affluent merchant from a small, hill-bound village in the former Khazar empire. In his younger days Benjamin lived in Byzantium where he transacted a considerable amount of business with merchants from the great trading cities of Italy. Because of his background, he is able to communicate with a wide range of people from both Europe and the Far East. Benjamin has a stocky build that can be mistaken as fat, which hides his true competence.
