Neal Stephenson (neal)111 |
One of the founding members of the Subutai Corporation. He is primarily a fiction author and has received several awards for his works in speculative fiction. His more popular books include Snow Crash, The Diamond Age, Cryptonomicon, The Baroque Cycle and Anathem.
But he doesn't have a fever the whole time he's constructing the boat. That is a crazy Noah's Ark kind of project motivated by what most people would consider mental illness. He could get a fever for a couple of days, have a hallucination that looks like a demon telling him to go to Korea, and then act on that.
Well maybe one of the demons tells him to get his sorry ass to Korea and check out what is happening there with the Mongols, lest Japan end up as a vassal state too. He ends up with a little bit of a messiah complex which quickly gets deflated as he ends up as an itinerant port worker, but through the course of a long Campbell-esque night journey through the belly of the Mongol beast all the way to Legnica and then back, he comes to realize that maybe he can help Japan after all.

This is great. We can say that he called bullshit on Robin Hood and got kicked out of the Merry Men.
