I was born in England, travelled to twenty different countries before I could talk, lived in an aboriginal community in Northern Australia, then in Papua New Guinea in an American/European community, and finally in Perth WA. I had an interesting childhood. When people say 'where are you from?' I generally say 'um...Australia, sort of'. I'm currently studying Digital Design and Creative Writing, but that may change; I was studying Chemical Engineering before this, so pretty much anything could happen.

Reading Lists

Just finished

Galileo's Dream by Kim Stanley Robinson - Robinson is probably the only author I've discovered by buying one of their books. I just picked it up in a bookstore and it looked good. It was. Galileo's Dream was a proper sci-fi. A proper Heinlein and Asimov, time-travel and spaceship sci-fi. A good read. 7.5/10

Currently reading

Empire of Silver by Conn Igguldon - I got about halfway through this before my dad stole it off me and left the country. Now I got to get it from the library or something.

Top Ten (at the moment)

I read a lot (I grew up without internet), and quite widely, so it's difficult to say what they are; there's so many good ones out there. Anyway, these are the ones I came up with, in no particular order. If you're looking for something to read, have a look at these.

  • The Gone Away World, by Nick Harkaway - The first time I read this, I was blown away. There are very few books that surprise and entrance like this debut, and I can't wait for another book.
  • Dune, by Frank Herbert - a visionary work. Unlike many Sci-Fi books, it seems timeless. I've read this many times, and I keep enjoying it.
  • Good Omens, by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman - these guys are two of my favourite authors, and I love all their books. Good Omens is a magnificent and hilarious combination of their two styles.
  • Ender's Shadow, by Orson Scott Card - Both sides of this parallel series were excellent, but I think this book was the best of the lot.
  • The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas - One of the most brilliant books I've ever read. 'The Three Musketeers' is also good, but the Count just has one of the most engaging plots you'll ever encounter.
  • 1984, by George Orwell - Profoundly disturbing. There's a lot of enjoyable books, but there aren't many that'll scare you with the possibilities. Orwell has created here a dystopia of horrible proportions. A sad and frightening look at what society could lead too.
  • The Bible - Even if you aren't a Christian, you should read the Bible, or at least the New Testament. Our ethics, half our literary references; so much of what we know or believe comes from here. As the largest religion in the world, you should know something about it.
  • The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini - Moving and beautifully written, with characters you'll love. The setting is interesting, and the story compelling.
  • Cryptonomicon, by Neal Stephenson - Most of you have already read this, so you know that this is an awesome book.
  • The Silmarillion, by J. R. R. Tolkien - He wrote the 'Lord of the Rings', but I've always liked this and 'the Hobbit' better. He's the father of modern fantasy, and the Silmarillion shows why. The world he's created is so huge and complex, with a history that spans thousands of years. Middle Earth is incredible.

It seems like the same old glitch we were having when this first started. Have these pages you want to create been linked to in other pedia pages?
