What is This?
This is The Mongoliad. It's a new kind of novel being written by bestselling authors Neal Stephenson, Greg Bear, and friends, together with a growing online community. Our story begins in the year 1241, a pivotal year in history: the Mongol Horde has invaded Europe, and its conquest seems all but assured. However, a small band of warriors and mystics, custodians of an ancient secret, devise a daring plan to stop the invasion and save the world as they know it. Our heroes know that their plan will likely cost them their lives, but they are the last hope to preserve something far more important than the prelates, kings, and emperors they serve.
We'll publish The Mongoliad more or less a chapter a week for our subscribers. From time to time, we'll also include tidbits of art, video, music and history to enrich the story. We're creating The Mongoliad specifically for mobile devices and the web, and that gives us the creative freedom to give our readers something uniquely deep, and the ability to involve the community in the creative process. The cost? Far less than the price of a hardback book for a year's worth of story and mixed media entertainment.
